Clare McCaldin is a British mezzo-soprano noted for opera and song recital, and for producing striking lyric stage work with her own company, McCaldin Arts.

In demand as a soloist for all manner of music, Clare continues to perform the familiar music of Handel and Vivaldi, and from Mendelssohn, Mahler and Duruflé to modern and contemporary repertoire in concert. To date she has recorded two solo CDs for Champs Hill records. Her commitment to new music saw the formation of McCaldin Arts in 2013, which not only commissions and produces new vocal works but also fosters her own interest and facility in inter-disciplinary arts, including dance, by staging these works for the theatre.

In addition to her principal interest of singing, Clare also speaks about her work and talks to other artists about theirs. You can read about these interests via the Blog feed adjacent, listen to the Tales From Backstage podcast series and hear recordings or watch videos of Clare via these links or the menu above.

We also had directors with us, some of […]

Cunning Little Vixen

Here I am with Rebecca Bottone in the Ryedale Festival’s production of The Cunning Little Vixen, directed by Joe Austin and designed by Simon Kenny.  Nick Winston did brilliant work with the cast to develop a range of movements to suit our non-human characters – foxes, chickens, mosquito, owl, frog, hare, cricket, dog, woodpecker – […]

Sketched at the Knitting Concert

At a recent concert, Dennis Lane was sitting in the audience and sketched this lovely line drawing of me singing.   This was one of Robert Bridge’s splendid Knitting Concerts in Putney, at which the audience is encouraged to listen while doing another activity.  A great way to encourage people to support concerts on a Sunday […]
